Understanding the Cosine Trigonometric Ratio

In mathematics, the cosine is a fundamental trigonometric ratio. For an acute angle in a right triangle, it is defined as the ratio of the length of the adjacent side (the side next to the angle) to the length of the hypotenuse (the longest side opposite the right angle).

cos(θ) = Adjacent / Hypotenuse

Using the widely known mnemonic SOH CAH TOA, the CAH stands for Cosine = Adjacent / Hypotenuse.

Unit Compatibility

Supports calculation for angles inputted as either Degrees or Radians, translating smoothly between them on the fly.

Inverse Cosine (Arccos)

If you already have the Adjacent and Hypotenuse values, use the inverse cosine function to find the exact angle: θ = arccos(A / H).
